The Super Eagles became the first country to claim nine points as Nigeria defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0 in their Group D encounter at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday in Garoua, Cameroon.

Just like the encounter with Egypt and Sudan, Nigeria displayed a brilliant performance to outclass their West African counterparts amid excitement and cheers from supporters.

Sadiq Umar scored in the 56th minute with an assist from Kelechi Iheanacho to put Nigeria ahead.

Nigeria’s best chance fell to Sadiq when he found himself clean through in the box. He went round the goalkeeper, but got the ball stuck under his feet and the Guinea-Bissau defence got back to clear.

Iheanacho had a volley from a corner comfortably saved, while Guinea-Bissau’s only shot of a goalless first-half came when Jorginho scuffed an effort wide when the ball fell to him completely free on the edge of the box.

William Troost-Ekong also scored Nigeria’s second goal against Guinea Bissau after a sensational dribble by Moses Simon.

With the victory, Nigeria is the only team that reached the last 16 round winning all group matches at the 33rd AFCON.

Guinea Bissau’s hope to reach the last 16 failed after losing to Super Eagles who had already qualified for the next round.
