The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has announced that Ramadan will start in the country on Saturday, April 2.
The NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, announced this on Friday in a broadcast.
He said the new moon was sighted in different parts of Nigeria and that report of the crescent sighting were received from Muslim leaders and organisations across the country.
The Sultan called on all Nigeria Muslims to work towards peaceful coexistence with all interests in the country.
During the anouncement, Sultan calls for prayers for the nation and leaders of the country for God intervention in the affairs of the country.
He enjoined the leaders to imbibe the fear of Allah in the discharge of their duties and also make an effort to end the heightened insecurity in the country.
Consequently, in accordance with Islamic law, Muslim Ummah is directed to commence fasting on Saturday accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan also starts on Saturday in Saudi Arabia and most Arab countries.
