The department of Mass Communication, Fountain University Osogbo(FUO) held its annual Creativity Challenge 3.0 on Thursday 1st of July, 2021 to celebrate and encourage students’ creative prowess in the field of Mass communication.
The event took place at Eti-Osa Lecture Theatre of the University with experts and professionals in the field of Communication, as panelists awarded the winners of Creativity Challenge 3.0 internship opportunities at Osun State Broadcasting Corporation(OSBC), RAVE FM and Rhaptor Images alongside cash prizes and media recognition from an online media organization, Western Nigeria Publica. The audience which comprised mainly students of the department and neighboring department were thrilled with the performance of the students.
The event took a turn after the invited panelists, Mr. Oluwatoyin Yusuff (Deputy Director News and Current Affairs TV department, OSBC; Miss Kikelomo Owoeye, the Regional Communication Officer, IBEDC Osogbo; Dr.Razaq Adisa, Mass Communication lecturer, University of Ilorin and Dr. Nusroh Afolabi-Balogun, Associate Professor, Fountain University Osogbo awarded scores in accordance with the rules of the competition. Five groups of students emerged from the department as interested students were categorized in groups based on their field of interest.
The challenge, aimed at encouraging a healthy competition among students, had participants formed into 6 different agencies slugged into executing productions across platforms including Print, Radio, TV and Advertisement.
The participating groups include: Royal Broadcast Media , SWAN Research Advertising Agency, Vision Creative Advertising Agency, Phoenix Media Concept and Excel Advertising Agency. It was a tussle of creativity as the groups showed up with mind-blowing ideas addressing Vaccine Hesitancy as a Fight against COVID-19 Pandemic which was the theme of the event and the ideas were commended and scrutinized by the panelists.
The winners of the event roared with joy as they were graciously awarded and beautified with medals and prizes while songs of victory filled the air. The Vision Creative topped the advertising category and earned internship opportunity at Rhaptor Imagery and a cash prize of N20,000 with certificate of participation, while the Royal Broadcast Media topped the broadcast category with internship opportunities at OSBC and Ravefm with a cash prize of N20,000 and were issued certificate of participation. The second position in both categories won a cash prize of N5000 and were also issued certificates of participation.
On his part, Mr. Rasheed Adebiyi, a lecturer from the department of Mass Communication, FUO, said he was glad the students could push through the event despite the challenges they were faced with during the course of bringing their ideas to life. The pioneer organizer of Creativity Challenge, Ahmed Iyanda who is the Editor-in-chief of an online publication, Western Nigeria Publica was also in attendance and he expressed his joy as he saw the mind blowing ideas from the participants and a continuous practice of the legacy he left behind in the department of Mass Communication, Fountain University Osogbo during his regime as the President of the department’s students association.
The executive of the Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA) were also applauded for their resilience and determination to bring the event into reality.
The President of the Association, Khalilah Ahmed expressed her gratitude to every member of the department, invited panelists and the ever-generous sponsors; Western Nigeria Publica, Ravefm, Rhaptor Images and OSBC.
he urged students of the department to see the event as a learning ground and build their potentials and careers around it and in subsequent events organized by the department, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
