Residents have urged the government to construct a bridge, hasten the dredging and expansi on of the river along Olorunsogo/Akanran road in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
They lamented the neglect of the bridge which they said has been approved since last year.

A resident, who pleaded for anonymity said “ if this is not attended to, there is a high tendency that it could affect a whole lot of properties, especially this time around that we are approaching the rainy season. However, the two Rivers require urgent attention before entering  the rainy season.

One of the residents living in Amuloko lamented the continuous rainfall, noting that it may cause serious damages, which she said heavy rainfall can have a negative effect on the two rivers, thereby leading to erosion.

Western Nigeria Publica (WNP) gathered that the overflow of the Ariyo river is small and it is a channel to small rivers, which overflow in a short duration of rainfall. The overflow of the river has led to the closure of the Adebayo shopping complex, which is at a far distance to the river. It has also led to the closure of the local market beside the river, with only the abattoir partially.

A resident in the area, Adedeji  Adigun, said government needs to hasten the dredging and expansion of the river, he said,  ”these rivers are always a concern whenever rain falls, everybody rush home when it is about to rain, because we know the struggles we will go through to cross the bridge, so therefore we need government intervention in the construction of the bridge before rainy season."
