The Chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed his commitment to tackle various challenges confronting the Northern region of Nigeria.
Governor Yahaya made this call during a courtesy visit by members of the 19 Northern Governors' Wives Forum (NGWF) to the Government House in Gombe.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Governor Inuwa emphasized the need for collaboration between NSGF and NGWF to tackle the obstacles hindering the progress of the region.
Of particular concern to the Governor is the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the North, which he identified as a significant barrier to socio-economic development, stressing the pivotal role of education in effecting positive change and improving livelihoods.
Governor Inuwa also underscored the importance of national stability, noting that the size and population of Northern Nigeria make it crucial for overall peace and stability in the country and the West African region as a whole.
Addressing the various security challenges facing the North, including insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping, the Governor called on leaders and stakeholders at all levels to confront these issues head-on.
Furthermore, Inuwa acknowledged the roles of Governors' spouses in contributing to the upliftment of society, particularly through women empowerment and good governance initiatives. He assured the NGWF of his full support in their endeavors.
Earlier in the meeting, Gombe State's First Lady, Hajiya Asma'u Inuwa Yahaya, who also serves as the Chairperson of NGWF, highlighted the forum's commitment to complementing their husbands' efforts in promoting socio-economic development in their respective states and the Northern region at large.
The NGWF's engagement in Gombe focused on key issues such as women empowerment, drug and substance abuse, and the challenge of out-of-school children, all of which are significant barriers to development in the region.
The First Lady commended the support received from the Northern Governors' Forum under the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, expressing confidence in the collaborative efforts aimed at fostering positive change and development in Northern Nigeria.
