Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON, has launched a new phase of statewide food palliative intervention, aiming to reach 90,000 poor and vulnerable individuals.
At the inauguration held at the Emir's Palace in Gombe local government, Governor Inuwa Yahaya emphasized the continuation of the intervention, addressing the impact of fuel subsidy removal on citizens.
"Today marks the commencement of another round of statewide palliative distribution for the impoverished and most vulnerable members of our communities. Since the fuel subsidy removal, we have consistently offered various palliatives to mitigate the impact on the lives of our people," said the Governor.
While acknowledging the challenges brought by the removal of fuel subsidy, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured citizens that the economic situation would improve soon.
He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to better leadership and the ongoing efforts to revitalize the Port Harcourt refinery.
Additionally, the Governor urged farmers to harvest their crops before the January deadline to facilitate herders' grazing, contributing to mitigating farmer-herder conflicts.
Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, disclosed that the exercise would cover all 2,998 polling units in the state, benefitting 25 people from each unit with spaghetti pasta and rice.
Dr. Jatau mentioned the state government's plan to extend the gesture to clubs and associations, emphasizing the responsibility of distribution sub-committees at local and ward levels.
Community leaders, including Alhaji Usman Shettima of Nasarawo, expressed gratitude for Governor Inuwa Yahaya's intervention amid fuel subsidy-induced hardships.
They praised the administration for maintaining peace and security in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, highlighted the continuous relief distribution as part of Governor Inuwa Yahaya's commitment to the welfare of the people.
