Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared the winner of the Oyo State governorship election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the results announced by the state Returning Officer, Olusola Kehinde, Makinde secured 563,756 votes to defeat his closest rival, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 256,685 votes. Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party garnered 38,357 votes.

The Returning Officer affirmed that Makinde fulfilled all legal requirements and was therefore declared the winner of the poll. Makinde won in 31 of the 33 local government areas in the state, while Folarin managed to win in only two local governments of Irepo and Ore-lope.

“That Makinde Oluseyi having satisfied the requirement of the law is declared winner of the poll,” The state Returning Officer," said.

The incumbent governor, who sought re-election, faced stiff competition from Folarin, a three-term senator, and Adebayo Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
