Brace-up The Young, a non-governmental organization (NGO), on Saturday September 10, commissioned three classroom blocks it renovated at Lucida Ephataz Model School, Ilasa, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Executive Director and Founder of the organization, Obasanjo Fajemirokun, said that it was essential to focus on school infrastructure as the learning environment plays an important role in the learning outcome of students.
He said, "Most students in low-income communities learn in dilapidated classrooms, without roofing, proper flooring, windows and doors. Some even learn under trees or in open fields due to the poor state of their school building, which affects their learning outcomes. This is the narrative we are changing by ensuring every child is learning in a conducive environment."
Obasanjo said the commissioning was unique to him because it was the first time the organization would be commissioning classrooms.
"Brace-up The Young aims at renovating 60 classrooms in 20 low-income schools in Nigeria and has commissioned its first three renovated classrooms in a school today."
“We started with renovating three classrooms in just one school – we are on a mission to ensure that BTY learners gain access to quality classroom instruction and materials, as well as equipping teachers of our Better School with 21st-century teaching Pedagogy. Our aim is to renovate 57 more classrooms in 19 low-income schools in Nigeria within 5 years," he added.
Representing the Community Development Association Chairman; Erin CDA Treasurer, Mr Awe Kayode, commended the good gesture of the organization, adding that the impacts will never be fortten in the history of the story.
He stated that the organization has contributed to relieve students and teachers of the stress in studying in uncompleted classrooms and abruptly closing schools when rain looms.
The Proprietress of the school, Mrs Abiola Esther Olaniyi, expressed her joy at the good works of the NGO.
In her words, " the building will facilitate teaching and learning process and it will improve the economy of the school and develop leaders for the community."
Rodiat Akinfenwa, 14 years old and a S.S.S 1 student of Lucida Estaphz Model School was excited about the project and expressed her joy by stating that she now has a beautiful classroom that will help her learn better.
Obasanjo further extended his gratitude to the Pollination Project Grant and donors who supported the renovation of the project.
