The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. Amidu Sanni has renewed the call on Nigerians in general and Muslims in particular to contribute to a national rebirth of values, including modesty and decorum which are the underlying message in the use of Hijab  (headcover).

According to a statement signed by the University's information Officer, Taoheed Alimi, Prof. Sanni's remark is coming on the occasion of the World Hijab day 2022.

Prof. Sanni reminded all, especially the youth, that the current trend in which 'crazy' dresses, hairstyles, tattooing, nail and hair fixing, among others, portrays a perversion of highly cherished values of decency, responsibility,  and good upbringing. According to him, the use of hijab, as an identity marker for modesty and freedom was ordained for Muslim women to safeguard their honour and social status.

"It's a divinely established  code for EVERY female  believer and not a matter of choice.  We all wear nose masks today, willy nilly, which is simply a measure in self-preservation,  but we find it difficult to abide by a simple code of Allah represented in donning hijab by our females. Some overzealous and mischievous state officials have even gone overboard by harassing hijab-wearing females or even denying them their rights. This is condembable and should be stopped by all legal means and rule breakers sanctioned", he said.

First celebrated in 2013, World Hijab day is an annual event observed in recognition of millions of Muslim women and ladies who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty. It is also designed to educate the Muslim and Non-Muslim populace on the benefits of using the hijab as both an identity marker for dignity, honour, and freedom, as only female slaves and those with low moral virtues went around with heads and bosoms uncovered.

Drawing on Qur'an 33 verse 59, the Vice Chancellor advised both Muslims and non-Muslims to appreciate the underlying objective and goal of the hijab culture which is in fact a feature of all Abrahamic Faiths, including Christianity and Judaism. In his words, "The younger generation of females today is faced with challenges of moral perversion as celebrated by the media, the society, and the internet, so it behoves us all as parents, educators, opinion leaders, and governments to protect our impressionable youth and the larger society from the irredeemable path of destruction".

Domesticating his  words, Prof. Sanni reminded the students of Fountain University of the need to uphold discipline, moral values and the APPROVED drescode by the University which portrays modesty,  corporate outlook, and above all, the Islamic orientation of the University.

In his words, "Let me use this occasion to remind our students that the University, more than ever before, is poised to encourage and enforce strict adherence to the APPROVED dress code of the University for all students Male and female, as reiterated and endorsed at the  Senate meeting of Wednesday 26th January 2022".

The Vice Chancellor finally felicitates with all Muslims, particularly the females across the world for upholding the principles and ethics of Islam, in spite of all odds.
