The AFCON 2023 host country, Cote d'Ivoire will welcome Guinea-Bissau to the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in the Nations Cup opener on Saturday.
Cote d'Ivoire have been drawn alongside Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea in Group A.
The hosts are making their 10th consecutive appearance in the competition. They were eliminated from the round of 16 in the previous edition by eventual runners-up Egypt and will look to improve upon that record this time around.
Guinea-Bissau have qualified for the competition for the fourth time in a row. Interestingly, they have been eliminated from the group stage in the last three editions and will aim to qualify for the knockout stage.
It will be a crucial game for the Elephants since it will set the tempo for the fans and the mood as well considering the fact that their supporters are hoping their team goes all the way.
For the Djurtus, they are in the competition to make a statement and will do absolutely everything within their power to stop their opponents from dominating Group A that is also made up of Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
While the Elephants are hoping to win the competition at home, Guinea-Bissau will be hoping to start well and get past the group stage for the first time in their history.
The game is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
The match will take place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
