Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, has unveiled a new salary structure for its academic staff, set to take effect in January 2025.

This initiative was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, during a press briefing ahead of the university’s 14th Convocation Ceremony, themed Celebrating Academic Excellence and Strategic Growth.

Professor Karim emphasized the importance of the salary adjustment, aligning it with the federal government's minimum wage policy. She stated, “Introducing a new salary structure reflects our unwavering dedication to staff welfare. Amid current economic challenges, we remain committed to supporting our lecturers and ensuring they have the motivation and resources to excel.”

This strategic move is expected to enhance the financial stability of academic staff while reinforcing Fountain University’s reputation as a center for intellectual leadership and academic excellence.

Investment in Staff Development

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s substantial investment in staff development. Over the past year, 13 lecturers earned PhDs, and three completed master’s programs. Additionally, several faculty members attended national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, bolstering their professional growth and the university’s academic profile.

“Our strategic investment in staff welfare and development ensures that every member of our academic community is equipped to thrive and contribute to our collective mission of excellence,” Professor Kareem noted.

Balancing Staff Welfare with Financial Sustainability

Addressing concerns about potential tuition hikes due to the salary review, Professor Kareem reassured stakeholders that the adjustment would not significantly impact school fees. She explained, “Despite global economic challenges, we only increased our school fees by 10–20% in the last academic session, unlike many other universities that raised theirs much higher.

“Our thriving business ventures and new enterprises are helping to cushion the financial impact, alongside leveraging research grants that provide additional teaching and business facilities.”

Commitment to Academic Excellence

The salary review is part of Fountain University’s broader vision to solidify its position as a leader in higher education. The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for its workforce, ensuring staff are equipped to meet the demands of excellence.

This initiative underscores the university’s recognition of its lecturers’ pivotal role in achieving its ambitious goals, further strengthening its academic community and institutional success.

Fountain University’s proactive approach to staff welfare and development continues to set it apart as a model institution in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
