Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to working with development partners to align governance with the needs and aspirations of the people.
The Governor expressed this commitment during a meeting with the Country Representative of PROPCOM Plus, a UK-funded project, Dr. Adiya Ode, in Abuja.
Governor Inuwa Yahya emphasized the urgency of strategic collaboration for sustainable development and a lasting legacy, aligning the state's 10-year development plan (DEVAGOM) with PROPCOM Plus focus areas, particularly climate-related and livestock development aspects.
He highlighted Gombe's strategic position in the North East and its environmental projects like Gombe Goes Green (3G) and the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve, making it an ideal place for PROPCOM Plus partnership.
“In Gombe we have a project called, Gombe Goes Green ( 3G) under which we are planting at least one million trees annually in our efforts towards environmental restoration, " he said.
Stressing the need for Nigeria to harness natural resources, the Governor urged a shift from consumer-oriented to a productive force, citing successful models in China, Singapore, and Rwanda.
Earlier, Dr. Adiya Ode informed the Governor about PROPCOM Plus, a UKAid-funded rural and agricultural market development program aiming to address economic challenges in conflict and climate-affected regions, seeking Gombe State's partnership in sustainable agriculture and forestry.
The program aims to support the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, increasing productivity and climate resilience while reducing emissions and protecting natural ecosystems.
The partnership between PROPCOM Plus and Gombe State strives to stimulate investments in agricultural value chains, fostering collaboration between public and private sectors for impactful growth.
This collaboration promises a trajectory for sustainable growth and advancement in Gombe State, reinforcing the commitment to address environmental, social, and economic challenges for the benefit of the people, climate, and nature.
