In its desire to provide quality and functional education that will guarantee a better future for children, the Osun State Government, yesterday, shut down about 23 private schools for operating without required standards.
Some of the offences that necessitated the closure of the schools included dirty teaching environment, unqualified teachers, non-renewal of licences and operating without licence.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Oladoyin, while supervising the closure of the schools, said the sealing off of the affected schools was part of government’s efforts to sanitise the education sector for better results.
Oladoyin said that Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led administration would ensure that students in the state always get the best in terms of quality education.
While speaking, he noted that the state's education ministry would do everything at it's best to fish out more mushroom and substandard private schools.
The commissioner stressed that the state government was committed to producing graduates who are critical thinkers and globally competitive.
He, therefore, advised private schools, which are not properly registered with the state’s Ministry of Education, to do so as soon as possible because government will not condone any act that can sabotage its resolve to give Osun students the best.
However, to improve the standard of education in Nigeria, most especially in the Western region, high standard of education has to be promoted at all levels.
