Young African Leaders Initiative(YALI) Network Ogun in collaboration with Opeogun Opemidayo Foundation on Wednesday distributed educational materials to over 100 pupils of St. Peter's Anglican Primary School, Joga Orile, Yewa, Ogun State.
The project, tagged “Back to School Pack”, was led by Sodiq Adebiyi, Coordinator, YALI Network Ogun, and some members of the team who presented the items to the school pupils.
Items distributed were exercise books, biro and other stationeries.
Speaking with Western Nigeria Publica, the coordinator said the educational outreach was to encourage the children to be of good behaviour and eschew all forms of criminalities capable of jeopardising their future.
“We have given them exercise books and other stationeries in order to help them in their academic pursuit, '' he said.
Adebiyi urged the pupils to be disciplined and dedicated to their academic pursuit, noting that the sky would be their limit in whatever profession they decide to choose.
Responding, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Oguntade R.T commended the YALI Ogun and Opeogun Opemidayo Foundation for the laudable gesture and for distributing learning materials to the pupils who are mostly from low income families and marginalized areas of the community.
St Peter's Anglican Primary School, Joga Orile is a public primary school located in a suburb area of Yewa North Local with a population of about 300 pupils.
Upon receiving the items, the pupils in their mood of excitement expressed their appreciation with a welcome greeting and a shower of "thank you".
Prior to the donation, many of the primary school pupils, according to a Teach for Nigeria Fellow, Oladapo Omitogun, who is also teaching in the school, said many of the pupils do not have enough books to write in the classroom while some are always without writing material such as pen and/or pencil.
