2023 elections: Ogun 'Vote Not Fight' urges Youths to shun violence, thuggery

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Ogun State youths have been urged to eschew electoral violence and other vices that threaten democratic stability and development.

'Vote Not Fight Ogun State made the appeal to the youths during awareness campaigns it undertook across some strategic areas in the state. 

In a courtesy visit to the Director of Department of State Security(DSS), Ogun State, Mr. Femi Aaron, the Vote Not Fight state coordinator, Obasanjo Fajemirokun highlighted the activities, aims and objectives of the campaign, according to him, "Vote Not Fight is a campaign designed to increase the participation of youths, men, women and People with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria’s political and electoral processes by promoting peaceful and constructive youth engagement with political stakeholders, electoral umpire and security agencies before, during, and after elections."

The Coordinator also hinted at the past, current and future activities of the campaign, stressing on the need to re-orientate and re-conscientise the minds of the Nigerian youths to shun all forms of electoral violence in the forthcoming election.

Responding, the Director commended the team on their efforts to deescalating electoral violence before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

Also, the team sensitized over 40 members of YALI Network Ogun on the importance of participating in the 2023 elections, shunning violence and electoral vices.

The state coordinator advised the youths of the state to desist from activities dangerous to their lives in the forthcoming election, urging them to channel their energy to building a better life and society.

“We are not a political organisation. We promote peace, and we believe that with peace and stability, Nigeria will be better for us all. Therefore, we should shun  all forms of violence, as well as actions that threaten our corporate existence," Obasanjo stated.

Other awareness campaigns the team undertook include sensitizing over 100 corps members in Ado Odo Ota Local government, sensitizing Persons with Disabilities at the just concluded Nigeria National Association of the Deaf Annual General Meeting(AGM) and 50th Anniversary. 

The team also moved its campaign to a playground at Ilisan Remo, sensitizing over 60 youths on violent free election in Ogun state.
