Gombe State Government has announced the suspension of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for April 2024 due to the upcoming local government council elections scheduled for Saturday, April 27th, 2024.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner Ministry of Water, Environment & Forest Resources, Mohammed Saidu Fawu, during a press conference held at the conference Hall of the Ministry.

According to Fawu the sanitation exercise, which is scheduled to take place last Saturday of every month starting from April, has been set aside to ensure the election proceeds without interruption.

The Commissioner indicated that this step would help create a conducive environment for voters to fully participate in the electoral process.

In his address, Fawu urged eligible voters to take advantage of this suspension and come out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights.

He also called on the residents of Gombe State to maintain a clean environment at all times, not just during the monthly sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and encouraged people to use designated government waste disposal sites, warning that those caught violating the rules would face legal consequences.

During the press conference, the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency (GOSEPA), Dr. Auwalu Baba Jada announced that a mobile court has been established by the state's Chief Judge to enforce penalties on those who violate environmental sanitation and hygiene laws, including those who neglect the monthly sanitation exercise.
