Prof Ramota Karim emerges first female Fountain University VC

Olayinka Ramota Karim, a Professor of Food Science and Technology, has emerged as the 4th Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo.

The scholar makes history, as she becomes the first female VC of the institution.

Karim will succeed the outgoing  VC, Prof Amidu Sanni, whose tenure ends on Tuesday 28th February, 2023.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of the institution, Dr Ibraheem Awa made the announcement on Monday.

According to the statement, the Board of Trustees approved the appointment at an emergency meeting of the Governing Council of the University, held on Monday.

The Pro Chancellor informed that the appointment of Prof Karim which is for a four year term, in the first instance, will take effect from 1st March, 2023 as the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor lapses on Tuesday, 28th February 2023.

The Chairman of Council praised the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof Amidu Olalekan Sanni for his passion, forthrightness and dedication to duty, all of which were not only second to none, but made the working environment so conducive.

While congratulating Prof Karim on this well-deserved appointment, the Pro-Chancellor urged her to be steadfast by providing her very best towards uplifting the University to the next level.

Born 52 years ago in Ijebu-ode, Ogun State, Karim began her academic career in Food Science and Technology in 1992 when she obtained B.Sc (Hons.) degree in the discipline from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

The incoming VC holds an M.Sc degree from the University of Ibadan, in 1995 and a Ph.D. degree from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, as the first Ph.D. graduate of the Department of Food Science and Technology in 2005.

In addition, she had a Diploma in Agribusiness and Post-harvest Management (Israel) in 2015, and Certificates in Inter-religious Dialogue, Conflict Transformation and Mediation (Abuja) in 2019; Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme-Tertiary (Abuja) in 2010; Microsoft Learning Content Development System (Ilorin) in 2009, and Research Methodology in Science (NIFST) was obtained in 2000.

She has invested over 24 years of enviable teaching, research, community service, and consulting in Food Science and Technology and to humanity in general.
