In this article, you'll learn why it's important to have good working relationships, how to build and maintain them, and even find ways to work with people that you don't get on with.

The event of this week was all that I needed to truly understand the power of a good relationship in the workplace.

I lost my energy on Thursday and was down with an ailment. I placed a call to my Boss at work to notify of my absence due to ill health.

From that moment my phone battery almost went off with calls from my colleagues at the office. It was almost like someone had to call every 15 minutes to check up on me.

The show of care was something I have never experienced. It is even more surprising to me because it's barely two months since I joined them. The Head Teacher and other staff went out of their way to locate my place to ensure that I am recovering well.

This event made me begin to reflect on how important it is for us to maintain a cordial relationship with our co-workers in the workplace.

I must confess that since I resumed my place of work as a young teacher, my job has been made easy as a result of the supportive team I have as colleagues.

Honestly, this is a result of the intentional steps I took to bond with them. I showed them respect, empathy, willingness to learn and work collaboratively with them. I didn't just say this, It was seen in my daily actions and interactions with them.

I hope to maintain this because every time one of them called me, it was like I received extra strength and relief. At the moment, if you ask me, I would say that I can't wait to return to work and give my best to the collective course.

It is true when Maslow argued that feeling loved is a significant motivating factor to employees.

The workplace brings together different people from diverse backgrounds. There is a tendency for people to misunderstand each other.
