The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has begun a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at promoting security consciousness, ethical living, and national development.
Speaking during a town hall meeting at the Federal Secretariat in Gombe, the NOA Gombe State Director, Mrs. Adaline Waye Patari, outlined the objectives of the campaign, which coincided with World HIV/AIDS Day.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to free HIV testing, counseling, access to antiretroviral treatment, and efforts to reduce stigma against those living with the disease.
Mrs. Patari urged Nigerians to adopt healthy practices and support affected individuals, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in combating HIV/AIDS.
On security awareness, Mrs. Patari detailed measures to enhance national security, including better funding for law enforcement, the use of advanced technology for intelligence gathering, and the reinforcement of community policing.
She called on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The NOA Director also addressed societal issues, cautioning against the rise of get-rich-quick schemes, especially during the festive season.
She urged citizens to prioritize integrity, hard work, and available government opportunities.
The campaign also aligned with the observance of World Human Rights Day, with Mrs. Patari reaffirming the government’s efforts to combat gender-based violence, child trafficking, and other human rights abuses. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of proposed tax reforms aimed at simplifying the tax system, eliminating double taxation, and providing relief for low-income earners, assuring that tax revenues would be used to improve healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, and educational institutions were called upon to amplify the campaign’s message and engage the public.
Representatives of security agencies and civil society organizations at the event commended the NOA for addressing critical societal challenges and encouraged citizens to actively participate in community surveillance by reporting suspicious activities.
The event, attended by government officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations, is part of NOA’s broader strategy to raise public awareness on pressing national issues.
