Nigerians have been called upon to embrace patriotism by demonstrating good habits and showing respect for the re-adopted National Anthem, as part of efforts to foster the overall development of the country.
The call was made by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during the launch of a nationwide sensitization campaign on the re-adopted National Anthem and the National Value Charter held at the conference hall of the Federal Secretariat in Gombe.
Representing the Director-General, the Director of Planning, Research, and Strategy at the NOA National Headquarters, Alh. Nura Yusuf Kobi, emphasized that the initiative is part of the Agency's National Identity Project which is designed to promote unity, pride, and a shared sense of purpose among Nigerians.
Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu noted that the re-adoption of the anthem marks a return to Nigeria's roots, evoking nostalgia and emotional connection, especially for those who recall it from the early years of independence, expressing hope that the anthem will inspire renewed national pride and unity among all citizens.
Regarding the National Value Charter, Mallam Issa-Onilu explained that it outlines the reciprocal seven-for-seven patriotic obligations between the country and its citizens which are designed to instill responsibility and commitment to national development.
The Seven Nigeria Promises include Security and Safety, Justice and Equity, Economic Opportunities, Quality Education, Healthcare Access, Infrastructure Development, and Environmental Sustainability.
On the other hand, the Seven Citizens’ Codes consist of Patriotism, Respect for Law and Order, Community Service, Ethical Conduct, Civic Responsibility, Cultural Respect, and Environmental Stewardship.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Gombe State Director of the Agency, Adaline Waye Patari, highlighted that the sensitization campaign on the re-adopted National Anthem and National Value Charter will involve various activities such as media engagements, town hall meetings, advocacy visits, school outreach programs, and roadshows to inform and educate the public on the policies and programs of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
Adaline Patari also expressed gratitude to media organizations for their continuous partnership in helping the Agency fulfill its mandate of communicating government policies and programs to the public.
